Gary Miller (R-CA)

Miller Supported Proposal From San Bernardino County District Attorney To Require All Undocumented Workers Submit DNA Samples In Order To Stay In America On Pathway To Citizenship. According to the Daily News of Los Angeles, “One of Southern California’s top prosecutors is urging Congress to require immigrants to submit DNA samples as a condition of staying in the United States. San Bernardino County District Attorney Michael A. Ramos sent a hand-delivered letter to House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., asking that pending immigration legislation include provisions allowing immigrants’ DNA samples to be cross-checked against the FBI’s database to prevent criminals from obtaining U.S. citizenship. ‘If they want to really be here on some form of work visa, or whatever Congress decides on a path to citizenship, I want to make sure they’re law-abiding,’ Ramos said. Ramos said he believes the vast majority of undocumented immigrants are otherwise law-abiding people who have entered the United States in search of work, and he anticipates only a very small percentage of immigrants will be blocked from citizenship by a DNA test linking them to criminal activity… Ramos also sent his letter to both of California’s senators – Democrats Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer – and House members representing San Bernardino County. Among them, Republicans Paul Cook and Gary Miller signaled some support for the district attorney’s idea… Miller, R-Rancho Cucamonga, was more explicit in his support. Miller, who has supported tight immigration laws throughout his career, said he can find no fault in the DNA sampling proposal. ‘This absolutely has to be part of the equation,’ Miller said.” [Daily News of Los Angeles, 1/31/13]

Miller Condemned “Birth Tourism” As An Escalating Problem For The United States. According to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, “Rep. Gary Miller, R-Brea, says birth tourism is a growing overseas industry in countries such as China, South Korea and Saudi Arabia where companies facilitate mothers’ trips to the United States exploit American immigration law. ‘It’s a loophole and it’s a problem,’ Miller said.” [San Gabriel Valley Tribune, 12/10/12]

Gary Miller Boasted About Being “The First Sponsor Of House Legislation Which Would Deny Citizenship To Anchor Babies.” According to a press release from Rep. Gary Miller’s (R-CA) office, “The author of the Arizona immigration law, State Senator Russell Pearce, will soon introduce legislation in the Arizona State Senate to deny citizenship to anchor babies.  Birthright citizenship is yet another loophole in our laws that encourages and facilitates illegal immigration.   In fact, approximately 200,000 to 300,000 babies are born to illegal immigrants each year.  By granting children of illegal immigrants citizenship, the child can eventually anchor an entire family in the United States, even though they gained access to our nation illegally.  In addition, the child – and potentially their family – will have access to a wide array of taxpayer-funded benefits, including access to a U.S. education and recently enacted government-run health care.  It is unfair to grant birthright citizenship to children of illegal immigrants because it undermines the intention of the 14th Amendment and rewards those that have recklessly broken our nation’s immigration laws.  Congressman Miller is the first sponsor of House legislation which would deny citizenship to anchor babies and spoke to Senator Pearce this week about efforts to end this practice. Congressman Miller commends Senator Pearce for his efforts to close this loophole at the state level and looks forward to working with him on this issue.” [GaryMiller.House.gov, 6/18/10]
